Gap council buys 48 acres for watershed

Big Stone Gap Town Council voted yesterday to purchase for $250,000 the 48.5 acre parcel known locally as the S.E. Warren estate (at center on map). The property, situated below the dam (diagonal line at top right), bisects the new access road, where the town had a construction easement, and the South Fork of the Powell as it goes from the dam to the water plant four miles below. The line near the bottom of the map represents the old road to the dam. The line above it is the existing road.
