Christensen issues call to action for region

'I didn't leave Richmond, where I was running community development projects for the whole state, to do something less important. This region is of primary importance,' Southwest Virginia Cultural Heritage Commission Executive Director Todd Christensen told those gathered for the Gap Partnership Awards Banquet Saturday night. 'I spent 28 years fixing water, fixing houses and doing job training in this region. The world has changed and resource-based economic development is no longer viable in rural areas.'
