World War II veteran Benjamin Kenneth Wampler, 92, participated in the Normandy invasion, where he said the beaches ran red with soldiers' blood. It was the worst nightmare of his life, he said. He went on to fight in the Rhineland and Northern France, returning home to the states on May 5, 1945, having received multiple medals for his military service.
