Construction firm Elk Knob last week began dressing the caps of the concrete abutments supporting the first railroad trestle between Big Stone Gap and Appalachia that will be part of the Powell River Trail. From bottom left are Chad Edwards, Darrell Bishop, Stephen Ehrgott and Brian Marsen. Bishop said the abutments are solid, but the concrete caps are crumbling. ‘We’re dressing it up and making it look nice,’ Bishop said. Once work on the trestles is completed, the rails and crossties will be removed to make way for construction of the two towns’ water interconnect and the trail.
