Fifty people participated in the Grizzly obstacle course race, one of two events of the Mountain Man Challenge sponsored by the Big Stone Gap Kiwanis. Thirty-five ran in the Black Bear 5K. Thomas Benoit was the men’s winner of the 5K with a time of 19:42; Sofia Mimendi was the women’s winner with a time of 19:44. Ned Spears won the Grizzly with a time of 26:40; Julie Scott and Sara Smith tied for the women’s best time, 33:11. PHOTO BY VICKY ELDRIDGE
