State senator Howell sees Mountain Empire Community College drone work

Virginia state Sen. Janet Howell (D-Fairfax), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, visited Mountain Empire Community College Tuesday to learn more about the college’s unmanned aircraft systems technology program and to hear from Flirtey chief of staff Andi Kilgore. Flirtey made drone flight history on July 17, 2015, completing the first Federal Aviation Administration-approved drone package delivery in the United States, from Tazewell County to Lonesome Pine Airport near Wise.
