Icy beauty overlooking Big Cherry

Wayne Browning, a National Weather Service observer and University of Virginia’s College at Wise faculty member, recently shot this image of rime-encrusted trees looking across the head of the Big Cherry lake basin. Browning scraped ice off a roughly 18-inch branch and it produced two-thirds of an inch of water, he noted.
