Dorothy (Dot) Wright Light passed away peacefully on December 6th after a period of declining health.
She was preceded in death by her parents, C.F. and Maurine Wright; sister Doris Hobbs; husband Tommy Light; and very close, longtime companion Elmer Younce.
Dot was born in Stonega, VA on January 11, 1938. She was baptized at Appalachia United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Appalachia High School. She spent most of her life in Big Stone Gap, where she raised her family. She retired from Lonesome Pine Hospital after many years of service. Dot was a dedicated fan of the Appalachia Bulldogs, Tennessee Volunteers and NASCAR and enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking and canning. She was known for her delicious buttery homemade biscuits.The greatest joy in Dot’s life was when she was able to spend time with her grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her children Lisa Cloud-McDonald, Brandon Cloud and Karl “Fred” Cloud (wife Monica); grandchildren Jasper, Josey, Sam and Elijah; sister Emma Jane James; brother C.F. “Sonny” III (wife Debbie); and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday December 14th at Roy A. Green Funeral Home in Appalachia, VA. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday December 15th in Roy A. Green Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Garrett Lee officiating. Graveside services will be conducted immediately afterward at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Family and friends serve as pallbearers.

Dot’s family thanks Dr. Shaine Powers and his staff, and everyone at Lonesome Pine Hospital, IndianPath Hospital, Lee Health and Rehab Center, and Oaks at Tucker Assisted Living for their wonderful care and support over the past four months.
