IRENE WELLS

Big Stone Gap, Va.- Irene Wells, 87, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap.

She was born in West Virginia and lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap, Va. She was devoted to her family. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. 

She was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Ray Wells; her parents, Con and Opal (Davis) Bryant; and a sister, Lucille Northam.

Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Bobby Wells; two sons, Michael (Marshell) of Big Stone Gap and Robert Wells (Margie) of Church Hill, Tenn. and; daughter, Patricia Hubbard (Tony) of Jonesborough, Tenn.; grandchildren, Terra Jones, Candace Wilson, Allison Herron, Joshua Wells, Andrew Wells, Matthew Wells, Rebekah Wells, and Sarah Blust; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends 5:00pm – 7:00pm on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Avenue, W. Big Stone Gap, Va. The service followed at 7:00pm with Bro. Junior Carroll officiating.

Graveside committal services were held at 11:00am on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Va.

Family and friends met at Gilliam Funeral Home by 10:15a.m. to go into procession to the cemetery. 

Pallbearers were: Andrew Wells, Josh Wells, Tony Hubbard, Matthew Wells, Michael Wells and Robert Wells.
