MARY BEGLEY

Mary “Susie” Begley, age 82, of Big Stone Gap, VA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

Born in Big Stone Gap, VA, on April 22, 1942, to the late Robert B. and Lelia Powers, Susie devoted her life to being a loving daughter, sister, mother and friend. Of the Christian faith, with a “ball of fire” personality and a generous heart, Susie could light up any room and was known for being barrels of fun. Susie was an excellent marksman, shooting a snake between the eyes, from her kitchen window, just two years ago. She loved to cook, enjoyed gardening her beautiful flowers and watching her birds, especially cardinals. Susie loved to go fishing and was an avid NASCAR fan. Susie was a member of the former VFW- Big Stone Gap Ladies Auxiliary. Susie will be missed dearly by her loving family, friends and Ridgecrest Manor Community.

Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by three brothers, Spencer Pridemore, Jr., Jimmy Ray Pridemore and Frank Powers; and two sisters, Zella Mae Estep and Dorothy Louise Powers.

Survivors include one son, Richard Steven Dickerson; one daughter, Myra “Beth” Hoggins; one sister, Bobbie Jean Dickenson; special nieces and nephews, Teresa Jean Tucker, Carl (Dawn) Dickenson, Jr., Carla Lynn Dillman, Kathy (Dyrk) Landis; several special cousins; and a host of friends.

Burial services were held at Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, VA on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 11AM. A Celebration of Life Service was held at Natural Tunnel State Park, 1420 Natural Tunnel Pkwy, Duffield, VA 24244, following the burial services, on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 1PM.
