VIOLET BOGGS JONES
Violet Boggs Jones, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023, in Big Stone Gap, VA, following a fall. Born on July 3, 1932, in Roda, VA, Violet lived a life full of love, kindness, and faith.
Violet was the cherished daughter of the late Elisha L. Boggs and Gladys Collier Boggs. She was a loving sister to her late brothers, Curtis, Carroll, and Clayton Boggs, and her late sisters, Hazel Richmond, Marie Bell, and Lula Green. Violet was also a devoted wife to her late husband, Dewey M. Jones, and a caring mother to her late sons, Jerry, and Jeffrey Jones.
Violet leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her son, Richard Jones (Teresa), and her daughters, Pam Lawson (Fain) and Patty Egan (Gary) daughter in law Cindi. Violet was a proud grandmother to Mandy Light (Shane), Clint Lawson (Nicole), Brett Lawson (Whitney), Nathan Jones (Corrie), Heather Jones, Richard Jones II, and Kacie Owens (Zeke). She also cherished her great-grandchildren: Madison Pease, Jordan Pease, Sydney Lawson, Clarissa Passmore, Carter Lawson, Crosby Lawson, Lincoln Lawson, Archer Miracle and Emma Carpenter, her special nieces and nephews that touched her life. Violet’s life was further enriched by her special friends, Loretta Fields, Jessica Clark, Ronnie Estep, and Kaela Earnis, as well as numerous other close relatives and friends.
Violet attended Dryden and later found her calling as a cafeteria worker at Powell Valley High School. She loved working with the students and faculty, and her caring nature made her a favorite among them. Her work at the school was more than a job; it was a way for her to give back to her community and make a positive impact on the lives of the students she served.
A woman of deep faith, Violet was an active member of the Faith Hope United Church. Her love for the Lord was evident in her daily life and actions, and she found great joy in attending church services and participating in church activities. Violet's faith was an inspiration to all who knew her, and her kind and loving spirit was a testament to her strong belief in the power of love and kindness.
Violet was a woman of many interests, but her greatest passion was her family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she treasured the moments she shared with them. Violet's home was always filled with laughter, love, and the delicious aroma of her home-cooked meals. Her family will always remember her for her loving nature, her unwavering faith, and her kind and generous heart.
Violet Boggs Jones was a woman of faith, a beacon of love, and a pillar of her community. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her loved ones. As we remember Violet, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life filled with love, kindness, and faith. May she rest in peace.

The family received friends on Monday, December 4 at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm. The funeral service was conducted following in the funeral home’s chapel; Pastor Michael Meade officiated, special music was provided by the “Boggs” family. The Committal service was held on Tuesday, December 5 at 11:00 a.m. in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens--those wishing to attend were asked to meet at Holding Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
