VIRGINIA GALLOWAY LAWSON
As Her testimony, “It is well with my soul.”
Virginia Galloway Lawson, age 99, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. At Holston Valley Medical Center.
Virginia was a lifelong servant of the Lord, where she taught Sunday school and played piano. Virginia also volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was a member of the Kingsport Community Church. Virginia was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She worked many years in Bookkeeping serving her brother in his dairy then joining Holding Funeral Home in 1972 until her retirement. She was thought of very highly by her colleagues, her dedication and organization kept Ben and Blake and the rest of Holding Funeral Home running smoothly. A first-class lady whom will be deeply missed by her family, co-workers, and friends.
Virginia was born in Wise County, the daughter of the late Rev. W. B. Galloway and Julie Elizabeth Roach Galloway; she was one of four children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gurstell H. Lawson, daughter, Ann Lawson Glenn, and her brothers, Graham Galloway, John Galloway, and Jim Galloway.
Those left to cherish her memories, Janice Lawson Welker and husband Monte of Maryville, TN., one granddaughter; Shannon Glenn Bishop and husband Steve of Kingsport, TN.; one great grandson; Hunter Bishop and wife Ashley, of Raleigh N.C.; one great granddaughter: Madison Bishop of Kingsport, TN. Beloved son- in- law Tommy Glenn, of Kingsport, TN. Three nephews and four nieces.
The family received friends on Friday, December 1, 2023, at the Kingsport Community Church from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 pm. for a Memorial Service to honor Virginia’s life. The service wase officiated by Steven Collins and Mark Stayton. The family received friends on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. for the visitation. The funeral service was conducted in the funeral home’s chapel. Special music was provided by Leonce Hall IV.
The committal service was held following in Glencoe Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Peace, John William Peace, Scott Williams, Steve Bishop, Hunter Bishop, and Tommy Glenn.
