County: 38 new virus cases

Wise County reported 38 new COVID-19 cases between Dec. 7 and yesterday.

According to Virginia Department of Health statistics, the county’s total number of cases since spring 2020 was 13,273 as of yesterday, compared to 13,235 one week earlier.
The county’s total of COVID deaths remained at 223.
Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,522,697 Dec. 7 to 1,529,714 yesterday, an increase of 7,017. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 636,951 Dec. 7 to 641,700 yesterday, an increase of 4,749.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 52 to 18,711. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by 12 to 3,857.
