One death, 63 new cases

Wise County reported 63 new COVID-19 cases between Oct. 19 and Wednesday.

According to Virginia Department of Health statistics, the county’s total number of cases since spring 2020 was 12,924 as of Wednesday, compared to 12,861 one week earlier.

The county’s total of COVID deaths increased by one during the week, from 211 to 212.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,491,056 Oct. 19 to 1,495,454 Wednesday, an increase of 4,398. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 616,745 Oct. 19 to 619,304 Wednesday, an increase of 2,559.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 58 to 18,401. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by 20 to 3,754.
