This engine was a sister of Southern 1401, and in the early 30s, it was decorated this way to pull a special train from Lexington to Chattanooga full of Shriners. The colors were determined from 
conversations decades ago with the workers 
at the shop at 
Ferguson, Ky. who 
worked on this and 
other engines.
