Mowing Season Has Begun

Riverview Cemetery in East Stone Gap is funded by the families of deceased family or friends. It helps to keep the cemetery mowed and looking good and with our donations the contract mowers are assured a job during the summer. Gary’s family is resting in the cemetery and we are close enough to drive out and spend some quiet time in the evening. Seeing the grass mowed and weed eating done around the stones, a donation of money is a small price to pay. Send your donations to the treasurer, Randal Hicks, Box 162, East Stone Gap, VA 24246.

Ready for Spring

I can honestly say for myself I believe I have seen every Gunsmoke program INSP has shown since the beginning of the year and I am ready for Spring so I can enjoy sitting on my porch and enjoy being outdoors. I do like those old westerns. It reminds me of our early TV when Bar II Western Theater came on at 4 p.m. and it was so snowy you could hardly see what was happening but it was TV and then all you had was antennas on the house top.

Prayer Request

I talked with Sandy Thomas this week and she is taking chemo one day a week and it is an all day long treatment. Keep Sandy in you prayers.

Dogwood Winter

The cold temperatures we have experienced the last couple of weeks leads it to be a true saying, Dogwood Winter is here. The trees are in full bloom, white and pink. We have several trees around our house and they are full of blooms. There are more winters to come in the next few weeks. Blackberry is not until June.

Easter Sunday

This Sunday is Easter! Easter Sunday and Christmas are times when the church attendance is overflowing. Christmas is a celebration of Christ’s birthday and Easter is the resurrection celebration.

I remember my sister and I always got a new dress and my brother, John, got a shirt to wear to church on Easter Sunday. I asked my grandmother, “why do we get new clothes for Easter”? Her reply was, “New life in Jesus and his resurrection so we wear new clothes to church on Easter Sunday. Did I know what she was talking about? No, but I learned down through the years and when I look at the old pictures that were made 60+ years ago on Easter I see the newness of our Easter Sunday morning clothes we were able to wear on Sunday morning and this represented the newness of life in Jesus’ resurrection.

I always remembered this on Easter when I dressed my children for church. We made sure they had a new outfit to wear to church.
