JAMES L. DURHAM

James L. Durham, 78, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Sunday, March 13, at the Bailey Center in St. Augustine, Florida.

Jim, as his friends called him, grew up in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. He attended Lincoln Memorial University and Fresno State University. Jim began his teaching career in California where he taught math and coached tennis before coming home to the valley to teach math and chemistry at Mountain Empire Community College when it opened. He and his wife, Peggy, retired to St. Augustine, Florida in 1999 where he also taught math at St. Johns Community College before retiring again. He was an avid tennis player and golfer.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy, daughter Susan, many loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and a plethora of devoted friends.

A family service will be held at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens at a later date.
