JAMES ‘MARK’ NICKELS

James “Mark” Nickels, 58, of Big Stone Gap, VA/Johnson City, TN., passed away on Sunday, Oct.10 2021 at Johnson City Medical Center. 

Mark was born in 1962 in the “Nickels” old home place, he was the son of the late, J.C. Nickels and Stella “Reed” Nickels. He was one of five children in the “Nickels” family. He was a graduate of Powell Valley High School, class of 1980. After graduation, he served the country honorably, in the United States Army. He spent his career keeping America running, by being a profesional truckdriver. 

He enjoyed dragracing, and was an avid motorcyclist. Riding his motorcycle around the countryside was one of his passions. He was a loving father, and grandfather. His granddaugthers were the light of his world. He adored them, and their love helped him through the tragic loss of his son. He will be missed by those he’s left behind. “Until we meet again” May God hold you in the palm of his hands. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, J. Douglas Nickels., three sisters; Janice Davidson, Gloria Graves, and Deborah Filyaw. 

He is survived by his son, Justin Nickels, his brother, Doug Nickels and wife Donna, his beloved grandchildren, Kally Nickels and Libby Nickels, many close nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. 

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Imboden Community Church with Pastor Russell Herron, where he will speak a word of encouragement, at 2:00 p.m. weather permiting the celebration will be held outside in God’s Creation (2106 Exeter Rd. Appalachia VA.)
