MECC, Health Wagon host Dental Day

October 13, 2021

On Tuesday, October 12, Mountain Empire Community College hosted their first ever Dental Day event at the Dental Assistant Clinic on the Center for Workforce & Innovation of Appalachia campus. Partnering with the Health Wagon, patients were given cleanings and basic exams by Dr. Olivia Stallard and her assistant, Taylor Perry. For Perry, this came full circle as she is a 2021 graduate of the MECC Dental Assisting Program.

Anthem HealthKeepers’ Community Relations Consultant, Misty Lee, also supported the event by providing all patients with take-home bags of oral hygiene items and enrollment information for Virginia’s Medicaid expansion. This program now includes adult dental care benefits for qualifying individuals. MECC hopes to offer this service to students again in the future. For more information, please watch the weekly student newsletter or contact Dr. Emily Bowen through the MECC Health Sciences office at 523-7456.
