Banquet Canceled
With the increasing numbers of the Covid 19 virus, the Stonega Veterans Banquet that was scheduled for August will be canceled as a precaution for everyone. The banquet had been planned but now the committee thinks cancelation is best for this year. Maybe next year will be possible.
No Events Planned
No events that I know about are planned for next week in the town of Appalachia. Right now we are at a “wait and see” drama.
rain forced cancellation
of Music Program
Buddy Delp was unable to keep the music program last week at the outdoor amphitheater adjacent to the Cultural Arts Building.
The weather man was forecasting scattered rain showers for Tuesday afternoon. This does not work well outdoors with electricity. The microphones are a must for the performers. The covered top will remain on the stage outdoors until October for the use of events coming up.
Condolences
We were so sorry to learn of the passing of a friend and fellow classmate at AHS back in the 1060’s, Janice C. Childers. She was the widow of her loving husband, Ronnie Childers. Janice and Ronnie married very young and shared a happy life with their three children. They were always together and shared a calling of God in their church at Appalachia Pentecostal Church with their pastor, the late Rev. Roy Smith. They worked in Sunday school, youth, Bible school, wherever they were needed. Janice had been in very poor health since the death of her husband Ronnie several years ago.
We send our deepest condolences to the family of Janice C. Childers.
We learned Saturday evening of the passing of Robert (Bob) Isaac, 91 years old. Everyone in this area is familiar with the Isaac name. Bob was a friend to everyone he met. He was a regular face at the cancer center, volunteering to make sure things ran a little better for all the patients.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Julia Isaac and a brother, David Isaac.
We send our condolences to his wife Dorothy and his family. Burial is today in Powell Valley Gardens.
Celebrating Birthdays
Today, Thursday, August 19th our old friend Roy Moore is celebrating his birthday in Georgia. Roy’s family, consisting of his two daughters, their husbands and their children travelled to Appalachia last week to celebrate all being together. Also with their Mom’s, Teresa Hobbs Moore’s family and enjoyed the Home Boy-Home Girl reunion in the Cultural Arts Building.
Roy has a twin brother, Ray Moore and he was born August 20th. Ray now lives in Bristol with his wife, Cheryl.
We are sure the Moore brothers had a great happy birthday on both dates wherever they are.
Endora E. Johnson celebrates this Saturday, August 21st with her husband Jackie Johnson. Her mom, Joyce and sister Coleen Estridge wish Endora a happy birthday and they love and appreciate her very much.
Sunday, August 22nd my brother, John McCarroll will be celebrating this 78th birthday. I know his loving wife, Martha will make special plans for the occasion .
We wish John a happy birthday on Sunday.
Hard to believe this, but our daughter, Sabrina Grosse, will be 54 years old on August 20th. To me she will always be young. That’s how parents see their children, “younger”. Sabrina will be a grandmother in February!
Time to Transplant Iris Flowers
Now is the time of the year to transplant the iris flower through September. Gary will replant the bulbs in another location in our back yard so next May we will enjoy looking out our window and seeing my favorite flower, the iris.
