County records 13 cases, two additional fatalities
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Wise County increased by 13 between May 19 and Wednesday.
The Virginia Department of Health reported Wednesday morning that the county’s total confirmed cases in the months since the pandemic began had risen to 3,235 — up from 3,222 one week earlier.
The number of Wise County COVID-19 deaths increased by two to 100.
Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases across several months rose from 522,588 May 19 to 524,545 Wednesday, an increase of 1,957. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 148,737 May 19 to 149,537 Wednesday, an increase of 800.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 82 to 9,405. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by 13 to 1,738.

REMINDERS
Gov. Ralph Northam announced May 14 that Virginia’s indoor face mask requirement would be lifted, citing new guidance from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
However, the CDC guidelines specify that fully-vaccinated people do not need to wear masks in most indoor settings. Those who are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated are strongly encouraged to wear masks in all settings.
