County records 35 cases, another two virus deaths

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Wise County increased by 35 between May 12 and Wednesday.

The Virginia Department of Health reported Wednesday morning that the county’s total confirmed cases in the months since the pandemic began had risen to 3,222 — up from 3,187 one week earlier.
The number of Wise County COVID-19 deaths increased by two to 98.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases across several months rose from 520,333 May 12 to 522,588 Wednesday, an increase of 2,255. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 147,814 May 12 to 148,737 Wednesday, an increase of 923.

During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 99 to 9,323. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by 15 to 1,725.

REMINDERS

Gov. Ralph Northam announced Friday that Virginia’s indoor face mask requirement would be lifted, citing new guidance from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

However, the CDC guidelines specify that fully-vaccinated people do not need to wear masks in most indoor settings. Those who are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated are strongly encouraged to wear masks in all settings.
