Banana Bark Christmas Card

It was a pleasant surprise to receive a handcrafted beautiful Banana Bark Christmas card from our former neighbors, David and Kathy Fraley. Enclosed was a Cousins Camp picture of their eight beautiful grandchildren. The late Louise and David Fraley would have been so proud of these great grandchildren. This Fraley family has a special meaning to us older citizens in Appalachia.

Birthday Wishes

Saturday, January 23rd our friend and former AHS student is celebrating a birthday, Wilma B. Flanary. Happy Birthday to a great lady.

Betty Meyers would like to wish her brother, Danny Long, a happy birthday on Saturday, Jan. 23rd. Danny is recovering from back surgery. Betty and Danny grew up in Andover and attended school in Appalachia.

Susie Richardson wants to wish her nephew, Jamie Richardson, a blessed happy birthday on January 23rd.

Celebrating Anniversary

Sue L. And Johnny Aistrop will be celebrating 57 years of marriage on January 27th. Congratulations to a great couple.

We all attended school at AHS and the Vocational School at Wise to learn a trade in life.

Beautiful Birds

I have never been much of a bird watcher but the “stay at home” order and the snow has made me very appreciative of the beauty of the wild birds in our area.

Gary hung two bird feeders on two old former clothes line metal posts that are perfect to hang flower baskets on or now bird feeders!

With all the snow we have had it is nice to look out the window and see the red cardinals, blue jays and the female cardinals, which are brown with red on their tail feathers and a bright orange beak. They are all different.
Gary has made some amazing pictures of these beautiful birds in the white snow. In March the robins will return to join these “snow birds”.

Reminder

Just a reminder that the Appalachia Lions Club will not meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, their regular meeting time. This is due to the governor’s order for no more than 10 people in a meeting. This is a very hard order to obey but maybe it will be under control before our organizations suffer too much.

The Cultural Arts has not been opened up for a program or meeting since February, 2020.

Covid Vaccination

Last Friday Gary and I received our first Covid vaccination at the former MountainView Hospital in Norton.

We had no problem, it all went like clockwork. We wore our masks and stayed 6’ apart. Everyone was very professional in their job.

We have an appointment for February 12th at noon for our second shot.

Prayer Request

Our friend, Nancy Buchanan, has had a medical set back. Last Saturday she had to be admitted to Holston Valley ICU with pneumonia in both lungs and heart enzymes were high, suggestive of a heart attack. She was put on a ventilator for her breathing. Remember Nancy in your prayers.

Frequent Snows

The snows have hit our area pretty frequently the last few months. The town crew has worked diligently to keep our town roads in the old and new bottoms clear in our different neighborhoods.

There is a large number of roads in our town area and they make sure they are all scraped and if possible put the road salt out to melt the ice when the temperature is above freezing.

Thank you Mike, Alan and Roy. These three men I know I see in the town trucks.
