Appalachia celebrates with parade

December 13, 2020

Despite ongoing regulations and concerns over the COVID virus, residents of Appalachia were able to enjoy some holiday cheer during Santa’s Neighborhood Parade, held Dec. 5.

The Appalachia Special Projects Committee developed the event, which was held as a safe alternative to the traditional, annual Christmas parade. Working with the town, the Appalachia Lions Club and the Appalachia Fire Department, the parade visited each neighborhood, including the surrounding coal camps.

Toys and candy were given to children and the sight of Santa brought smiles and holiday cheer to parade watchers of all ages. Families enjoyed the parade from their sidewalks, front porches and in many cases just by sneaking a peek out of a window.
