Celebrating 59th Anniversary

Tuesday, October 20th our dear friends,  Charlotte and Sam Green, are celebrating their 59 years of marriage. They have lived their entire married life in Appalachia.

Due to some health concerns they are staying at home most of the time due to the  Covid awareness.

A card would be nice from their friends. We wish them a Happy Anniversary.

Celebrates Birthday

October 23rd, David Harding will be celebrating his birthday. Happy Birthday David and many more to come.

Town Council Meeting

Thursday, Oct. 15th (today) there is a town council meeting at the former AHS in Appalachia. At 4:45 a public hearing will be held in regards to a public parking ordinance. This meeting will be held in the auditorium building of the former school.

90th Birthday Celebration

Louise Henegar’s 90th birthday celebration was very special. She was a queen for the day sitting on her throne.

Louise wore a dark purple, long dress and her grandson, Wess and great grandson Jerry escorted her from the house to the throne so everyone could see her.

The large white tent was decorated  in beautiful floral arrangements, pictures of her late husband Lewis, children and family members were arranged on a special table.

Due to the Covid rules everyone wore masks and social distancing was practiced.

The rain stopped for several hours for the gala. The refreshments and cake were presented for individual servings in cups and cake box. Very unusual but very appropriate and beautifully done.

A favorite song of her late husband, Lewis Henegar, was 7 Spanish Angels and she loved to dance with him to this song so her male guests and family danced a short dance with Louise and she loved it.

Her female family members were escorted into the tent carrying a long stemmed red rose and presented them to Louise.

Those who wanted to share a memory of Louise were welcome to speak. Don’t ask anything about “Fuddruckers”. Louise was very emotional but gave a very heartfelt talk of her appreciation to her daughter Glenda and son-in-law Larry Flanary, with whom she lives, and her family and friends for attending.

It was a great event. Not many women live to be 90 but Louise said when God takes her breath she will be gone home. Great testimony!

Condolences

We send our condolences to the family of Larry (Hoot) Gibson, also known to many as Honey Gibson. He lived in Exeter, VA with his wife Jenny. He was retired from custodian work at Appalachia Elementary School.

We were shocked to learn of the sudden death of Billie L. Cress. Billie and her late twin sister, Mary Sue, were very well known for the great work at the Beauty Shop for over 20 years in Big Stone Gap.

She retired from C.A. Cress Insurance in Pennington Gap in March of this year.

The family will have a celebration of life service at a later date in Holding Funeral Home Chapel.

PRAYERS

Bruce Large is in the VA Hospital diagnosed with Covid 19.  He also has pneumonia but he is being treated for all of this.  Please keep Bruce in your prayers.

Beautiful Leaves

The rain we have had Saturday and Sunday of this week has been very instrumental in all the beautiful fallen leaves.

We took our Sunday drive and man alive, our mountains are beautiful with vibrant color. As we were driving down Big Stone straight the mountains before us were unbelievable.

It made me think of many years ago when I was driving Mamaw Shook to her home and she raised  her hands and said “Look at the handiwork of the Master” and she rejoiced at the sight. I always think of her when I drive down the straight and see this sight again.

She has made her crossing but her memory and testimony lingers with many still.

This week the color will be at it’s peak. Take a ride and enjoy this Master Piece of God. Man has nothing to do with it.

Lynch Mountain is the next place we plan to see this week. Drive through Inman and up the mountain to the top at the Kentucky line.

It’s worth the trip! Beautiful!
