Gap closes recreation sites; virus blamed

Big Stone Gap Parks and Recreation’s Facebook page has posted a change involving the town’s recreation areas.

It announced: “ALL interactive play areas (playgrounds, ball parks & basketball courts) in the Town of Big Stone Gap are now CLOSED until further notice due to the recent rise of COVID-19 in our area.”

An addendum was later posted that the track at Bullitt Park and the Greenbelt walking trail will remain open with social distancing rules.

The Visitor Center later posted that it will not continue renting bicycles until further notice.

This notice comes six days after the town closed Carnes Gym to the public. The town is still allowing the gym to be used by reservation.
