HUGHIE F. CASSELL SR.

Hughie F. Cassell Sr., age 89, of Big Stone Gap, VA, formerly of Hiltons, VA, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at Johnson City Medical Center.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. He was a member at Heritage Church of God and loved gardening and wood working.

Mr. Cassell is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Jasper and Oakie Mae Watson Castle; two sisters; six brothers; first wife, Pauline Esther Cassell; son, Russell Ashley; granddaughter, Kristi Taylor.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Sweet Cassell; daughters, Sharon Norwood and husband Taylor, Jean Taylor and husband Tim, and Karen Ashley Crowe and husband David; sons, Hughie Cassell Jr. and Darrell Ashley (Kathy); 15 grandchildren, Jerimy Norwood, Jessica Burrell, Kari Farmer, Lana Cassell, DeeAnn Greear, Allison Winters, Amanda Sturgill, Justin Ashley, Miressa Ashley, Perry Michael Ashley, Christopher Ashley, Melisa Ashley, Samantha Ashley, Ashley Jones, and Brian Maushardt; 29 great grandchildren; sister, Virgie Wallen; brothers, William Castle and wife Lou, Clarence Castle and wife June, Roy Castle, and Larry “Hank” Castle; many nieces and nephews.

There will be a private family graveside service at Holston View Cemetery on Saturday, April 25.
