Appy manager offers virus tips, information
As the coronavirus emergency goes on, Appalachia Town Manager Fred Luntsford has been keeping the town updated on services with regular emails and posts on the town hall Facebook page.
In his Monday morning update, Luntsford re-emphasized the importance of social distancing and following good hygiene practices.
He stressed that residents should not let their guard down when it comes to the coronavirus. “You may have heard that in some areas the rate of positive results from testing have leveled or decreased. Please realize that our area saw its first positive test much later than a lot of other areas which means we are maybe two weeks behind. Now is not the time to relax or become complacent about following the rules.”
Along with his words of advice, Luntsford gave a few updates on town business:
• To reduce the possibility of COVID-19 exposure to town employees and residents, water heaters that are normally read manually will reflect the same amount of consumption as the previous reading. Those residents’ water bills will be the same as the previous billing. Radio-read meters will be read as usual.
• If your income is affected by circumstances due to the coronavirus, contact the town about making arrangements for your water service. Assistance will be offered until the crisis passes.
• If you need other assistance because of circumstances caused by COVID-19, you can call the town. If it is an emergency, please call 911.
• The food bank at the Appalachia High School gym is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10-11:30 a.m.
Please contact Appalachia town hall at 276/565-3900 if you have any questions.
