GLADYS LITTON

Gladys Litton, age 101, of Big Stone Gap passed away quietly into the loving arms of her beloved Savior early Thursday morning March 19, 2020 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Big Stone Gap, Virginia with her niece Nita Hollinger by her side.

She was born in Dryden, VA on May 23, 1918 to parents Kidmore and Elizabeth Litton. Gladys was also preceded in death by six brothers Ray, Curtis, Troy, Allen, Bannister and William. Four sisters, Dorothy, Carrie Sissy and Dovie of which she made sure she was the youngest sister, and a sister-in-law Frances Litton (Ray).

Gladys professed her faith in God at an early age and attended the Wells Chapel AME Zion Church in Pennington Gap until her health declined. She was known and loved by her family and friends for her jovial personality, words of encouragement, staunch faith and her uncluttered knowledge and memory of past and present events.

Gladys worked as a domestic worker in Pennington and the Dryden area, in addition, she was caretaker for her parents and siblings and gave generously of her time and cooking abilities to her many friends. 

Gladys is survived by two nieces, Mildred Allen of Dayton, OH and Nita Hollinger of Glen Allen, VA and by nephew Roy Tolbert of Dayton, OH; nephew Ron Hollinger, special great nephew Turk Hollinger and a host of other great nieces, nephews and special friends Steve and Jackie Maddox.

Gladys had countless other friends whom she loved dearly. Special thanks to all caregivers at Heritage Hall who shared the best care and love on Miss Gladys.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 27 from 6 until 8 pm in the Mullins-Sturgill Funeral Home in Pennington Gap. Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday March 28 at 11 am in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sandra L. Jones, Rev. Steve Maddox and Elder Carolyn Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden.
