ATTEND CONFERENCE

Gary, Shawn, and Connor attended a Men’s Conference in Lynchburg at Liberty University last Friday and Saturday. They all agreed it was very enlightening classes on problems all men face daily in their walk with the Lord.

CANCELLATIONS

This is a very trying time we are all experiencing with the coronavirus threat and how has placed fear in the hearts of so many people. I remind myself of the scripture 2nd Timothy chapter 1 verse 7, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear,  but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Now I understand sound mind is self control or good sense. So I plan to use good sense and do what they tell us to do and not imagine things and above all trust God! He is our provider.

• Due to coronavirus threat, the Open Mic program on Tuesday, March 17 was cancelled at the Appalachia Cultural Arts Center. The council will make it a public notice when the program will resume.

• The auxiliary volunteers at Lonesome Pine Hospital will not be at the hospital to volunteer and this is due also to the coronavirus threat. Avoiding crowds is what we must do.

• The sale at Lonesome Pine Hospital main lobby on Thursday, March 19 by the Masquerade company will have to be postponed for now. We hope for a future date in the coming months. I will let you know when a new date is scheduled.

ELECTION

May 5 election in Appalachia has a few more candidates signs posted in Appalachia. They are Gary Williams and Jackie Johnson so right now seven candidates are in the running.

RICHARDSON

Susie Richardson had cataract surgery last Tuesday. Thursday night she had to be taken to the nearest hospital for vomiting. I have not talked to her in a few days. Keep her in your prayers.

97TH BIRTHDAY

We have a very dear friend and she will be celebrating a special birthday. I believe she will be 97 years on March 19. Inez Blevins is a blessing to everyone who knows her. Her life has been her family and caring for them. Her late husband Elmer Blevins was the love of her life and her daughter Carolyn and three sons and grandchildren. All her friends would like to wish Inez a happy birthday today! Gary and I think she is the best and we wish her a great day to celebrate her day.

75TH BIRTHDAY

Our sister-in-law Nella Mae P. Bush turns 75 years old tomorrow, March 20. Nella lives in Bealeton, VA but she is a Post newspaper subscriber and keeps up with the news in our area. Happy birthday Nella Mae.

COY LEONARD

We were sorry to learn of the passing of Coy Leonard of West Chester, Ohio. He lived in Appalachia and graduated from Appalachia High School in 1962. Coy was laid to rest at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens on Saturday, March 14.

RECOVERING FROM SURGERY

We want to wish a speedy recovery to Jackie McKinney in Chesterfield, VA. Her sister Freda Mabe told me Jackie is recovering from back surgery. Jackie is a 1962 graduate of Appalachia High School. It is always a pleasure to see and talk to Jackie. We hope she will be able to come to Appalachia for the August Railroad Days, Home Boy Reunion, and Inman Reunion. You never know who will be there with these gatherings. Get well soon Jackie!
