Creation Kingdom Zoo
Creation Kingdom Zoo re-opens Saturday, March 14, 10 a.m.
As always, you can expect new exhibits, plus a new paved walking area around the exhibits.
Join the Bradleys this Saturday and celebrate the opening of #BestZooEver.

Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park

• Friday, March 13-Friday, September 25—Can be viewed during normal business hours: Museum’s Rotating Exhibit—“Big Fashion in a Small Town” This exhibit features a Victorian Era fashion theme, such as when the Ayers family was at home in the Gap.
• Saturday, March 14: 6 p.m.—8 p.m.—St. Patrick’s Day Bash Fundraiser—$20 per person—Participants can celebrate with a holiday-themed foods, wine tasting with MountainRose Vineyard and a special performance by “Wild Blue Yonder Band.”
• Tuesday, March 17: March Artisan Series—-6 p.m.—8 p.m.—Fused Glass Quilt Square (Adult) $40 per person
• Thursday’s, March 12, 19 and 26: WiseJAMS Music Program—-3:30 p.m.—5:30 p.m. This program offers weekly lessons in guitar, banjo and fiddle for children 3 through 8.
Masquerade sale
There will be a Masquerade sale will be back in the front lobby at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap on March 19th. Everything is $5. New merchandise and it is great items. Jewelry is beautiful! You have to see it to love this merchandise. One day only on Thursday, March 19th. This is sponsored by the auxiliary volunteers.

Wild about Wildlife Home School Program
Natural Tunnel State Park has a variety of wildlife that can be seen and heard. During this four month long program, the importance of these animals will be covered. We will meet the first and third Tuesday of each month.
April 7 and 21: Snakes
Cost: $3 per person per program or $20 per person for the entire 2020 homeschool series.
Elementary-aged children are encouraged to come twice a month to discover the unique animals in our state park. To register, or for additional information contact Rachel Blevins at Rachel.Blevins@dcr.virginia.gov or 276-940-1643. Meet at the Cove Ridge Center.

6:30 p.m. Salamander Meander. Find out what makes these amphibians so unique. Then join an interpreter as you go on an adventure to find salamanders. Wear shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Meet at the Stock Creek Recreation Area. Free

9 a.m. - First Day of Spring Bird Walk. Join bird park interpreters and celebrate the beginning of spring with a bird walk throughout the park. Meet at the Blockhouse Parking Lot. Free
Sunday, March 22
2 p.m. - March 22: Declaring Independence on the Frontier: Backwoods Patriots and the Outbreak of the Revolutionary War. Settlers on the Appalachian frontier were caught up in the struggle against Britain, long before winning important victories in the Southern Campaign. During this presentation, Michael Lynch will examine backwoodsmen’s relationship with the American Revolution from the time of the Intolerable Acts to the outbreak of war with the Cherokees in 1776.
