VISIT FROM FRIEND
Emma Jane James had a visit from an old friend and childhood acquaintance last week. Emma lives at Heritage Hall Rehab and Nursing Home, and her friend Shanda Kiser Horner and Shanda’s husband Garnett spent the weekend in Appalachia and Big Stone. They did a belated birthday celebration for Emma Jane.
Emma Jane and Shanda were next door neighbors on Dixon Ave. growing up. They talked about Appalachia’s boom days and their hope that good days are ahead for the town they both love deeply.
Shanda Kiser Horne and her husband visited Appalachia and returned to her old home place on Dixon Ave. Shanda was the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.B. Taylor and niece of Dorothy Taylor Weiman. She currently lives in Lynchburg and enjoys fairly regular visits to Southwest Virginia.
Mrs. Dorothy Weiman is a supporter of Appalachia Cultural Arts and she lives in Florida with her grandson. A few years ago her grandson traveled with Dorothy back to this area and she was able to attend a program at the ACAC and enjoyed it very much. We do appreciate hearing from our former residents of Appalachia.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
We have missed the date of a very nice resident of Appalachia celebrating her 94th birthday. Gladys Maxwell celebrated on February 21. Gladys has lived her entire life in Appalachia and her husband was a railroad employee until he retired. Happy belated birthday Ms. Gladys!
Happy belated birthday on February 25 to Una Faye Ford. We wish you many more birthdays to come.
