Flooding closes roads

Heavy rain and flooding have cause several road closures in Big Stone Gap.

As of Thursday afternoon, closings include: Aviation Road, West 12th Street and Wood Avenue intersection, Wallens Ridge Boulevard and Tate Springs Road and River Road intersection. Carnes Gym is open and set up as a Red Cross shelter.

Currently, there are no road closings or mandatory evacuations in Appalachia. However, the Appalachia High School gymnasium is open as a shelter.
