Happy birthday to Ron Flanary. Most everyone knows Ron in our area. He has been around a long time. Happy birthday to a dear friend. He will celebrate on the 28th and his wife Wilma B. on the 23rd. So a big celebration will be a good reason to celebrate with family and friends.
ANNIVERSARY
We have a very special couple celebrating a wedding anniversary on Monday, January 27. Sue and Johnny Aistrop celebrates 56 years of marriage. Happy anniversary to two old friends. We all went to technical school at Wise while in school at AHS.
LIONS CLUB MEETING
Tonight, January 23 is the Appalachia Lions Club monthly meeting and the dinner menu is: hot dogs made with Sandy Thomas’ great chili! To go along with the hot dogs will be French fried pots, baked beans with brisket, coleslaw, deviled eggs, and desserts are peanut butter pie and peanut butter fudge. Now this sounds like a great meal. The meeting is held at the senior citizens building on Main Street in Appalachia at 7 p.m.
BETTY BERCHINSKY
Betty Winstead Berchinsky a lifelong resident of Big Stone and Appalachia passed away on January 13. Betty graduated from Appalachia High School and worked 30 years at First National Bank in Appalachia. Betty was 90 years old. Betty attended the East Stone Gap Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband John Berchinsky and parents Larkin and Maude Winstead, two sisters Thelma and Barbara and brother Glen and his wife Bobbie. Betty was laid to rest in the American Legion Cemetery January 19.
SUSIE RICHARDSON
Susie Richardson has a long list of doctor’s appointments, tests, sleep studies, you name it she is scheduled. Her appointments are scheduled now through up until March 2020. Susie gave me all her appointments on email. Please keep Susie in your prayers as she is going through all these tests.
NEW GRANDDAUGHTER
We have an addition to our family. My sister, the late Leona Van Winkle’s granddaughter Emily and her husband Waylin Reed are the proud parents to Hardin Douglas Reed born January 20 in Tennessee. Mark Van Winkle is the proud grandfather. Younger brother Benjamin Reed is adjusting to a new baby brother in the house. Congratulations to the Reed and Van Winkle family.
GOUT
I was diagnosed by blood work and a red big toe and terrible pain that I have gout! Worst pain I have experienced in my time. I need prayers now for sure. Change has to come and it eliminates all my favorite foods! Fish hurts the worst. I love fish! You see my dilemma.
