E. RUTH CARY

E. Ruth Cary, a long time Oak Ridge resident, Rockwood, TN/ Big Stone Gap, passed away December 29, 2019, at West Hills Care and Rehab in Knoxville, TN.

She was born in Linden, VA., the daughter of A.H. and Katie Hayes Cary. She attended high school in Appalachia. Following graduation, she moved to Kingsport and shortly thereafter, settled in Oak Ridge, TN. where she stayed until 2018. She worked at K-25 for 35 years where she worked with the Cascade and had a wealth of knowledge about the early days.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and by her siblings Gladys, Hilda, Elva (Buzz), Kellie, Lyle, Vernon, Maurice, A.H. Jr., Robert (Tiny), and Sue.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews including those that made their home with her for many years: Greg Ecklund (Deanna), Myrtle Beach, SC; Linda Ecklund Ellis (Rick), Rockwood, Tn; and Linda’s children Wil Wright (Tuyen and Cat Vy); Kelley Rice (Brian); and Savanna Ellis. Her life was so richly blessed by her great nephew, Wil, who was her caregiver and her very best friend. She is also survived by Dr. Mukesh Sharma who was her devoted physician and close friend.

Burial will be Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Glencoe Cemetery, Big Stone Gap. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery for the

committal service.
