CHARLES JACKIE PITTS SR.

Charles Jackie Pitts Sr., 67, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2019, peacefully at his residence in Appalachia, VA.
He was a lifelong resident of Appalachia and retired from the Town of Appalachia, where he served as superintendent of the water plant. He also worked at the Big Stone Gap and Norton water plants. Jackie loved high school football and the Minnesota Vikings.

Mr. Pitts was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Jean Hicks Pitts; and brother, Robert Ray Pitts.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jean Pitts; his children, Gloria Murray, Big Stone Gap, Rhonda Bowman, Appalachia, and Charles J. “Chuck” Pitts Jr. (Ashley), Big Stone Gap; his brother, Jimmy Darrell Pitts, Appalachia; sisters, Brenda Sue Mullins, Big Stone Gap, and Mary Ann White, Appalachia; five grandchildren, Kayla Stratton, Marissa Bowman, A.J. Bowman, Natalie Pitts, Lauren Pitts; three great grandchildren: Jaxon Mullins, Jace Lovell and Kinsley Lovell.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave. West, Big Stone Gap. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor John Varner officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Glencoe Cemetery, Big Stone Gap. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
