PAUL STAPLETON BENFIELD JR.

Paul Stapleton Benfield Jr., 64, Big Stone Gap, passed away, Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Norton Community Hospital.

Paul was born on March 17, 1955 in Pennington Gap to the late Paul Benfield and Thelma (Smith) Benfield. Paul was a minister who served the Lord his entire life. He preached at numerous church’s throughout the region. He was a big animal lover. He Loved to travel with his family to various destination’s, until his health kept him close to home.

He worked at Norton Community Hospital for over 30 years, where he was honored with many awards of distinction, for his dedicated service to the hospital.

In addition to his parents, his brother Brian Speers preceded him in death.

Surviving is his loving wife of 44 years, Rita Benfield, Big Stone Gap; one son, Paul Edward Benfield and girlfriend MacKenzie Broome, siblings: Roger Benfield wife Carol, Larry Benfield wife Roseanne, Sandy Speers husband Jim, Debbie Speers: other close relatives and friends.

The family received friends from 11-1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec 11 at Holding Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Holding Funeral Home with pastor Shawn Bailey officiating. Graveside services were conducted following the service at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap. Family and friends served as pallbearers.
