ACAC

At this time of year the Appalachia Cultural Arts Center is proud to announce two free gifts to the public.  On December 2 the UVA-Wise Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Donald Sorah Jr.  will present their annual Christmas program at 6:30 p.m.  This is an exciting time for our area and the music will not disappoint you.

Second, on December 13 at 7 p.m. the play “Twelve Plays of Christmas” by author Pat Cook will be presented at the Appalachia Cultural Arts Center under the direction of Pamela Counts who is a veteran actress and has performed in many venues throughout our area. We are expecting a great crowd and hope to see you all there.  It is the ACAC’s way to say thank you for supporting us throughout this year. Some concessions will be available for purchase at a nominal fee. Remember It’s free.

In last weeks Post an error occurred in the announcement of the UVA-Wise Jazz Ensemble date. It was listed as December 22 but it is actually December 2.  Sorry for the error.

LIONS CLUB

On November 14 the Appalachia Lions Club is celebrating their 78th year anniversary.  Susie has planned a celebration meal consisting of: potato soup, corn bread, chicken and pimento croissants, birthday cake, sundry toppings, and beverages.   All Lions are asked to attend this festive occasion.

BIRTHDAYS

November 14 is a special day for Norma B. Munsey who is celebrating her birthday. All of her friends in Appalachia and Big Stone Gap wish her the happiest birthday ever.

We have a “Special Lady” celebrating her birthday on November 15.  Susie V. Whitt.  Susie is well remembered by her former students and parents of those students because Susie was a wonderful teacher and a better person who was close to each of them. She has managed to stay in touch with many of them and she has seen the fruits of her labor.  We as parents appreciate the role you had in our children’s lives.

Monday November 18 Mr. Gary Bush celebrated his birthday by taking me to the Kidney doctor in Kingsport.  I am expecting good news so I have reason to celebrate two big occasions.  God has blessed us both so many times, day in and day out, so we both are rejoicing.

Tuesday November 19,  Cheryl D. Moore will be celebrating her big day so her sister-in-law Susan Barnett says  “Happy Birthday to a wonderful lady.

PIGEON FORGE

Last week Gary and I traveled to Pigeon Forge, Tenn. and lodged at the Dream More Resort.   It was beautifully decorated for the Christmas holidays.  A big plus for those staying at the Dream More is the trolley that takes you to and from Dollywood which opened on Saturday the 9th.  This to me is a “big” plus.  It was crowded being the first day of the Christmas season.  The shows were very good and we used the “time saver” devise,  also furnished by Dream More, and it made it so easy to get into the theaters.  Gary Knows how much I love to see Santa and he was there in all of his glory in a beautiful red suit and white beard and rosy red cheeks.  Gary made several pictures of him and I’m glad he did because when we returned to the hotel on the trolley a 3-year-old with his Mom and Dad and brother were on the tram.   Gary showed him the picture of Santa and his eyes opened wide with awe.  This gets better because the next morning Gary passed him coming out of the building he turned to his Mom and exclaimed “That man has Santa on his Phone”.   Gary came into the room with a smile and told me what happened.  There is fun and enjoyment in Christmas just seeing the excitement in the faces of the young and the young at heart.
