LUCY BERNICE HERRON GIBSON

Lucy Bernice Herron Gibson, 90, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at her home.

Bernice was born in Sigma, VA on November 24, 1928.  She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  Bernice loved reading her Bible, working in her flowers, embroidering and making quilts.  She worked at Powell Valley High School for 26 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carson A. Gibson; her parents, Abraham and Ethel (Lawson) Herron; her in-laws, Newton (Jock) and Jane Gibson and her brothers, Lonnie, Ellis, Troy and Lucian Herron; her sisters, Retha Fleenor, Lorine Herron, Dorothy McMurray, Arnette Garrett and Pat McAlister and her grandson-in-law, Scottie Estep.

Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Gilford Gibson, of the home; her daughters, Carolyn Clifton (Norman), of Big Stone Gap and Paulette (J.E.) Morris of Appalachia; her five grandchildren, Eric Hicks, Brent Gibson, Christy Chandler, Tabitha Estep and Emily Gibson; her great-grandchildren, Robbie, Tori, Bailey, Ryan, Gracie, Patton, Dillon, Allison, Emma, Haylee, Tarron, Abbie, Ava, Colton and Blake; her brothers, Joe (Donna) Herron of Harrogate, MI, Larry (Alice) Herron of Dryden, VA and Abraham (Cathy) Herron of Cleveland, VA and her special friends, Charlotte Griffin, Nancy Kilgore and Marie Masters.

The family received friends on Sunday, Nov. 3, from 12 – 2 p.m. at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave. W, Big Stone Gap. Funeral services followed with Pastor James Holcomb officiating  Following, Bernice was laid to rest at Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap.

Serving as pallbearers were Eric Hicks, Brent Gibson, Robbie Gibson, Bailey Gibson, Colton Estep and Blake Estep.  Honorary pallbearers are Ryan Gibson and Tarron Malla.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
