EWING CARTHEL ‘E.C.’ RINES

Ewing Carthel “E.C.” Rines, 91, of Big Stone Gap, passed away peacefully, to his heavenly home on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at his residence.

He had been a supervisor with the Mine Safety and Health Administration and had served his country in the Merchant Marines. He loved gardening and was a member of Christian Life Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Corbett and Ollie Bledsoe Rines; his brothers, Leonard “L.C.” Rines, Carl Edward Rines and Charles Ray Rines; his sisters, Brownie Coffey and Claudia Belton and his canine companion, Maddie.
E.C. is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Nila Rines; his sons, Terry Rines (Jonnie Lynn) and Gary Rines, both of Big Stone Gap, VA; his grandchildren, Amber Murdock (Cody), Jill Ashby (Don), Holly Rines, Nathan Rines (Virginia); and his great-grandchildren, Tate, Maverick, Jude, Emerie, Brooks, Greyson, Kennedy, Seth, Nate, Abby and Isaac.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Christian Life Church, 103 E. 27th St. S, Big Stone Gap. Funeral services will follow with Pastor Mike Dalton, Rev. Larry Coeburn and Dr. Nick Brewer officiating.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 19 at 1 p.m. in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, Big Stone Gap. Family and friends are asked to assemble at Christian Life Church to leave at 12:30 p.m. to travel in procession to the cemetery. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
