County sees four new cases

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Wise County increased by four between May 4 and Wednesday.

The Virginia Department of Health reported Wednesday morning that the county’s total confirmed cases in the months since the pandemic began had risen to 10,295 — up from 10,291 one week earlier.
The number of Wise County COVID-19 deaths remained at 199.

Across the state, the rate of new case growth is accelerating once again.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,227,101 May 4 to 1,238,231 Wednesday, an increase of 11,130. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 483,171 May 4 to 488,518 yesterday, an increase of 5,347.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 43 to 16,939. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by two to 3,362.
