Friday After Thanksgiving

The Friday after Thanksgiving was the day the teens and younger generation was anxiously waiting for the trip to the little white church on the hill in Inman. Mrs. Spears, our Sunday school teacher, met with all those that would take a part in the Christmas play. All the girls were angels and the boys shepherds and kings and then there was Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus. It was something everyone looked forward to. The play was presented on Christmas Eve. This was a way to wind down from Thanksgiving and get ready for Christmas.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving has always been a day for families and friends to gather for a feast of food and be thankful for the blessings God has given them. Down through the years our family has passed on and the large number at the dinner table has dwindled. This is not isolated to a few but affects so many people at this time of the year.

Now I am thankful for our daughter Sabrina and her husband Richard from Georgia and our son Shawn and Emily and their three children from Wise. They will be with us this Thanksgiving.

Gary’s niece, Gloria H. Smith and her son Seth will be with us on Friday. We are very thankful Gloria has good reports following her breast cancer last year!

This is a time when most people gather for their great meal and each person speaks of what they are thankful for. Everyone has a chance to be grateful. I hope everyone has a great day no Happy Thanksgiving!

Celebrating Birthdays

James Napier in Andover is celebrating his birthday on Saturday, Nov. 27th. All of James’ hunting and fishing buddies wish him a happy birthday “90th” is special.

November 30th Debbie Collier will be celebrating her birthday. Sally V. Gibson wishes her daughter a blessed birthday and she loves her very much. Debbie’s husband, Jim Collier, also wishes his wife a happy birthday!

Bonnie Ireson wishes his special friend, Leshia Sizemore, a happy birthday on Nov. 30th.

Our granddaughter, Berkley, will be 9 years old Nov. 24th. We asked her, like grandparents do, “What would you like for your birthday?” A very quick response, “money”.

We asked what was she going to buy and she replied fidgets. This was Greek to us! Berkley proceeded to show us her box full of fidgets. Turns out a store in Chattanooga, TN sells nothing but fidgets. Her birthday wish is to travel down and purchase what she wants at the store.

My, how times have changed in the last 25 years. Anyway, signs of the times, I guess.

Christmas Baskets

The Lions Club members will be presenting 50 Christmas baskets. Applications can be picked up at the town hall in Appalachia and from a Lions Club member. The applications must be returned by Dec.1st to Appalachia Town Hall or the drop box at the Appalachia Lions Club located at 125 Callahan Avenue (Dr. Ford’s former office). Baskets will be delivered on Dec. 22nd. Someone must be present at the home to receive the basket.
