COVID cases rise by 14

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Wise County increased by 14 between June 2 and Wednesday.

The Virginia Department of Health reported Wednesday morning that the county’s total confirmed cases in the months since the pandemic began had risen to 3,258 — up from 3,244 one week earlier.

The number of Wise County COVID-19 deaths increased by one, to 101.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases across several months rose from 525,896 June 2 to 526,992 Wednesday, an increase of 1,096. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 149,887 June 2 to 150,218 Wednesday, an increase of 331.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 42 to 9,499. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by 12 to 1,761.

REMINDERS

Gov. Ralph Northam announced May 14 that Virginia’s indoor face mask requirement would be lifted, citing new guidance from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC guidelines specify that fully-vaccinated people do not need to wear masks in most indoor settings. However, those who are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated are strongly encouraged to wear masks in all settings.
