Our friends and neighbors at The Laurels Retirement and Assisted Living in Norton can begin to anticipate another very exciting event on Saturday, June 19!
The 2nd Annual “Classic Cars for Classic Seniors” cosponsored by Lonesome Pine School and Heritage Center in Big Stone Gap and The Laurels is taking place that day from 10 a.m. til 12 p.m. The theme of the 1950s will be carried out in the decorations and dress of the staff and participants. The event will honor Garnett Gilliam, retired Wise County educator and curator of the Lonesome Pine School and Heritage Center(LPSHC), and all residents of the Laurels.

We are anticipating a much more open venue this year allowing more interaction between the residents and participants, but still following the guidelines as will be displayed by The Laurels staff and management at the site.

There will be several attractive trophies awarded in different categories as there were last year. The residents will be asked to vote for their favorites and determine who wins each category.

Snacks and soft drinks will be provided by The Laurels for everyone attending. Family members of the residents are invited to attend and enjoy the parade and meet-and-greet afterwards.

All interested classic car owners are encouraged to participate in this community effort to provide a happy day for the residents, their families, and the staff and management of The Laurels. Dash plaques will be available to the first thirty registrants.

Please contact Dave Williams with Lonesome Pine School and Heritage Center and Daniel Boone Car Club representative at 571-499-3588 or e-mail at swvakiid@charternet.com to register your intent.
