County sees 10 more virus cases, another death

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Wise County increased by 10 between Sept. 16 and yesterday.

The Virginia Department of Health reported Wednesday morning that the county’s total confirmed cases in the months since the pandemic began had risen to 393 — up from 383 Sept. 16.

The number of county deaths attributed to the virus grew from seven to eight during the week.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases across several months rose from 129,963 Sept. 16 to 135,626 yesterday, an increase of 5,663. The number of “probable” cases in Virginia rose from 6,396 Sept. 16 to 6,964 Wednesday, an increase of 568.
During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 171 to 2,882. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by 34 to 207.
