WILLARD EUGENE FLEENOR

Willard Eugene Fleenor, 97, of Big Stone Gap, passed away Friday, October 11, 2019, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Norton, VA.

He was a U. S. Army Veteran of WWII, having served in the Co. A, 390th Infantry in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, and was retired from Pet Dairy, Inc. after 37 years of service. He recently was a supervisor for the Town of Big Stone Gap Parks and Recreation for over 30 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap.

Willard had a great relationship with the young people of Big Stone Gap. He was one of Union High School’s biggest fans and supporters.
Preceding him in death were his wife of 68 years, Julia Ashe Fleenor; parents, Arthur and Saphrona Osburn Fleenor; brother, Arthur Fleenor; sisters, Ann Gray, Hazel Collier, Helen Harkleroad, Veda Pleasant and Lillian Fleenor.
Willard is survived by three sons, Randall E. Fleenor Sr. (Cathy) and Kevin S. Fleenor (Lori), both of Big Stone Gap, and Jeff L. Fleenor Sr. (Susan) of Brookwood, AL; grandchildren, Katie Gibson (Dan), Jennifer Malacane (Eric), Emily Smith (Warren), Randall Fleenor Jr., Jeffrey Fleenor Jr., Scott Fleenor and Brieann Lawson (Ethan); thirteen great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Tammy Grimes and Ann Cubine.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, at First Baptist Church, 108 Wood Ave., E., in Big Stone Gap. The service will follow at 8 p.m. with Dr. Garrett Sheldon officiating.
Military graveside rites, by the Va. National Guard Honors Team and local V. F. W. and D. A. V. posts, will be accorded 11 a.m. Friday at Glencoe Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the church by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members of the 2019 Union High Football Team. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Turner and Kyle Redman.
